Mallory Quinn lands her dream job when she gets the opportunity to become a nanny for the adorable five-year-old Teddy. With her past struggles, Mallory is thankful for the quiet solitude her live-in position offers. She respects Teddy's parents and loves the small cabin she calls home, nestled in the Maxwell family's backyard, just steps away from the young Maxwell family and her charge, Teddy.
All is well and good until Teddy, who loves to draw, begins drawing elaborate scenes depicting sinister activities with far more skill than he should possess. Are supernatural forces at work? And why does Mallory occasionally get an uneasy feeling around Teddy's parents?
This book was a fun read for me! I honestly loved the increasingly skilled sketches scattered throughout the book. Maybe I still long for the picture books of my youth? Regardless, I didn't check whether the drawings were also the author's work. If so, well done, Jason Rekulak! Not only a skilled storyteller, but an accomplished artist as well, it would seem.
I happen to like a little supernatural vibe alongside the creepy, so this book really checked that box for me. I honestly did not have the ending of this book entirely figured out until about the last few chapters. The final twist is a good one! I, for one, didn't see it coming! If you like a mixture of ghost stories along with creepy kids that have secrets.....give this one a go! Happy reading and happy #spookyseason!
